For many years there has been a strong chora
l tradition, which is still maintained today. We follow closely the Church calendar celebrating the important events during the year.
Special anthems are sung for baptisms and the choir has been engaged to sing at weddings and funerals. Evensong has been celebrated for St. George’s Day, Christ the King, Ecumenical services and when Naples hosted the Diocesan Synod. In 2008 for the first time we did an Advent Carol service introduced by the current priest.
One of the highlights of the choir’s preparation is for the 9 Lessons and Carols service held in December, a long-standing tradition in the Anglican Church. The choir’s repertoire covers a wide range of Church music, from the earliest tradition to the present day. We are always pleased to include anthems specially requested by choir and congregation members.
We have two practices a week: these are also occasions where, over a cup of coffee and a slice of cake, we come up with ideas of how the choir could get involved in other areas of the Church life.
Some members do come from quite a distance and it is not unusual to see an environmentally friendly attitude amongst them – car pooling and use of public transport (the metro station of Piazza Amedeo is only 5 minutes walk from the Church).
We truly believe that in leading the singing and expressing our joy of worshiping the Lord we have a “mission” to proclaim. We are so fortunate to have three very talented organists whose expertise makes it possible to produce a lovely and mood-inspiring sound out of our 117 year old instrument.
The Choir Director and resident composer not only teaches us the notes to sing, she also gives us a musical insight to the compositions, enabling us to have a deeper understanding and give a fuller interpretation to the anthems.
At the moment our one “regret” is the fact that we have no permanent male members, so if you have a hidden talent waiting to be discovered, now is your chance. Join the Christ Church Choir!
